Community Package Tours

The Community Package Coalition is a broad alliance of neighborhood organizations and nonprofit advocates seeking key public benefits from the Convention Center expansion, the largest real estate project in Seattle’s history. On this tour the Coalition will lead us through most of the project locations, including First Hill’s Terry Avenue Promenade, Freeway Park, Pike-Pine protected bike lanes, and the Lid I-5 study area. We’ll also be joined by UNITE HERE, the labor union representing hospitality workers.
Monthly Meetup

Connect and chat with fellow urbanists! This free event every second Tuesday of the month is open to all, and food and drinks are available for purchase at a local pub.
This month we’ll be joined by Zachary DeWolf, President of the Capitol Hill Community Council and candidate for Seattle School Board District 5.
Zachary is a Chippewa Cree tribal member, a graduate of Western Washington University, and program manager with All Home King County, co-managing the Youth Advisory Board/Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project.
An experienced community activist committed to pursuing racial, economic, gender, and social justice through service, Zachary (learned) and taught Braille and opened a library at St Peter’s Anglican School in Belize while serving in the U.S. Peace Corps and as a coordinator for the 2012 SOULFORCE Equality Ride.
He serves as president of Capitol Hill Community Council and as a commissioner for the Seattle Housing Authority Board. Zachary is also a member of the NW Two Spirit Society, Coalition to End Urban Native Homelessness, SPD’s Native American Advisory Council. He lives in Capitol Hill with his husband Derek.

Pike Place Marketfront Opening Tour

The Urbanist’s other July tour experience is the newly opened Marketfront expansion of the Pike Place Market. We’ll join staff at the Public Development Authority to learn how the project came about, details of the design and services provided, and what’s next as planning continues to reconnect downtown with the waterfront. Scott Bonjukian has degrees in architecture and planning, and his many interests include neighborhood design, public space and streets, transit systems, pedestrian and bicycle planning, local politics, and natural resource protection. He cross-posts from The Northwest Urbanist and leads the Seattle Lid I-5 effort. He served on The Urbanist board from 2015 to 2018.
